More than 100,000 register for .eu domain

The office registering names with the new EU's internet address has been flooded with around 40,500 applications within 15 minutes of its launch.

The new ".eu" domain opened for businesses and public bodies on Wednesday (7 December) at 11 am.

Within the first minutes of its launch, a peak rate of 60 applications per second was recorded by the European Registry of Internet Domain Names (Eurid), a non-profit organisation appointed by the European Commission to manage requests.
