European liberal leaders on Thursday (15 December) attacked plans to block Macedonia's EU candidate status if there is no budget deal, while showing optimism that a finance breakthrough is near.
"Each country should be judged on its own merits and not be taken hostage by the budgetary perspectives", Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said.
