EU urges trade partners to stay calm on bird flu

The European bird flu outbreak is damaging the European poultry industry, as consumers in and outside the EU appear to distrust authorities' assurances that cooked bird meat is safe.

The EU on Saturday (25 February) urged its trading partners not to over-react to an outbreak of H5N1 bird flu at a farm in Ain, eastern France, which killed 400 turkeys.
