Brussels offers to pay half in aid to bird flu-hit farmers

The European Commission has offered to release EU agriculture funds money to support egg and poultry farmers hit by plummeting prices amid a consumer bird flu scare.

A proposal to help member states with reimbursing farmers for their sale losses was presented in Brussels on Wednesday (29 March).

"Because of the gravity of the current market crisis, the commission now proposes to co-finance 50 percent of the cost of market support measures linked to a drop in consumption and price...
