Brussels and Microsoft start fresh competition battle

The European Commission has warned Microsoft that its new operating system, Windows Vista, due out early next year, might infringe EU competition rules and limit choice for consumers.

In a letter to the chief of the world's largest software company, Steve Balmer, EU competition commissioner Neelie Kroes outlined the commission's concern over the coupling of certain programs such as internet browsers to the operating system.
