EU clarifies new member states workers' rights

The European Commission has rejected concerns that non-EU citizens living in western Europe would have better access to work than people from new EU member states, under a new EU directive.

"Citizens of new member states are not in a less favourable position compared to third country nationals who have long term residency status," a commission spokesperson told reporters.
