Bird flu hits German poultry farm, UK testing first case

Over 16,000 birds were culled last night after the H5N1 bird flu virus was found in a poultry farm in the eastern German state of Saxony.

In the meantime, Britain has confirmed its first case of bird flu in Scotland, but more tests are needed to confirm if it is the lethal H5N1 virus.

The German case is the second case of an outbreak in domestic fowl in the EU after a case in France in February.
