MEP Chris Davies steps down in Jewish row

The leader of the British liberals in the European Parliament, Chris Davies, resigned under pressure last night after it was revealed he had exchanged insulting emails with a Jewish constituent in the UK. Mr Davies will stay on as an MEP however.

The popular and outspoken politician was summoned by the Liberal Democrat leader in the UK, Sir Menzies Campbell, to give an explanation of his remarks in the emails, which were picked up by a Jewish newspaper.
