Lithuania set to miss 2007 euro entry

The European Commission will today (16 May) announce whether it will allow Lithuania and Slovenia to join the eurozone next year.

Slovenia is expected to get the go-ahead while Lithuania may be forced to keep its litas for at least another year because the country's inflation rate is marginally above that allowed by the EU.

EU officials have repeatedly praised Slovenia for meeting all the standards set to keep the economies in the eurozone stable.
