EU proposes speeding up cross-border divorce

Spouses of different nationalities or couples living in another EU country could in the future find it easier to divorce, under new plans by the European Commission for an EU law on cross-border divorce proceedings.

"These initiatives will simplify life for couples in the EU," said EU justice commissioner Franco Frattini in a statement.
