Drivers in the EU may have to use daytime lights

It may soon be compulsory for cars to have daytime running lights in all EU member states, the Independent reports.

The paper notes that the European Commission says car lights during the daytime could reduce deaths by 3 to 5 percent, equivalent to 1,200 to 2,000 fatalities a year across the EU.

Fourteen of the EU's 25 countries already have rules on the use of daytime lights.
