Ukraine looks to Berlin to strengthen its EU ties

Ukraine is looking to the German presidency of the EU next year to boost its ties with Brussels and prepare a more attractive EU policy towards the east.

In an interview with German daily Die Welt, President Victor Yushchenko said he hoped that Berlin would work on a new EU bilateral agreement with Kiev that would replace the current deal - known as the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement - which runs out in 2008.
