The UK conservatives, the main opposition party to the country's ruling Labour party, have said that if elected, they would agree to a transfer of powers to the EU only with approval from citizens in a referendum.
Speaking at the party's annual conference in Bournemouth on Tuesday (3 October), the British shadow foreign affairs minister, William Hague, said the conservatives would in future strive to prevent further political integration of the EU.
