Employment performance of the EU improved significantly in 2000, with over 3 million new jobs created marking a growth of 1.8% in employment, according to data released on Friday by the European Commission. The employment rate stood at 63.3%, up from 62.3% in 1999, showing that the EU is moving faster than expected towards reaching its goal of an employment rate of 70% by 2010.
