China urges restraint as EU moves to increase trade arsenal

China's ambassador in Brussels has called on the European Union to moderate trade restrictions, just as rising fears inside the 27-member bloc appear to be spurring a new raft of defensive measures from the European Commission.

Speaking to members of the European Parliament's trade committee on Thursday (2 December), ambassador Song Zhe was also defending China's currency policy, while MEPs peppered him with their concerns regarding market access for European businesses.
