German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder backed on Sunday a proposal from French president Jacques Chirac to call for an emergency Iraq summit gathering heads of states from the 15 UN Security Council countries.
Spokesperson for the German government, Bela Anda, said on Sunday that Mr Schröder had welcomed the idea in a telephone conversation with the French president and that the Chancellor is prepared personally to cast the German vote in a decisive UN vote.
