EU to speed up visa security measures

From 2005, non-EU citizens will be obliged to have a fingerprint stored on their travel visas to the EU and also on their residence permits, if they live in an EU country.

The fingerprint is regarded by the Commission as the best solution for "background checks" in databases. By combining a fingerprint with a photograph, the Commission hopes to combate fraud and also increase security.
