EU biofuel plan could soothe energy tensions

Brussels has decided to boost the production of alternative fuels such as biodiesel, in an attempt to reduce the EU's dependence on oil and natural gas from Russia and the Middle-East.

The European Commission on Wednesday (8 February) adopted an "EU Strategy for Biofuels," to raise production of fuels from agricultural raw materials like sugar beet, animal waste and cereal, among others.
