The long and intensive discussion about the date for a Danish referendum concerning the Euro ended on March 9th when the Danish Prime Minister, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, finally settled on September 28th 2000.
Arguing that a no would threaten the Danish welfare-system, the Prime Minister was not late to deepen the gap between the yes and no-voting political parties and movements.
“A no to the Euro vill not ensure the existing system. Only a Danish yes ensures that,” he said.
