Scotland demands clarification on EU membership status

The Scottish Nationalist government has asked the European Commission for clarification on whether an independent Scotland would be forced to re-apply to join the EU if a referendum expected in 2013 is successful. On Wednesday Commission President Barroso indicated that secessionist countries would not automatically keep their EU status
