Protests in Lisbon over new austerity budget

Two thousand protesters confronted riot police outside the Portuguese parliament on Monday after a new austerity budget in scenes reminiscent of Greece. Measures include a 13.2% hike in income tax, cuts of €2.7 billion from public spending next year and firing 12,000 civil servants.
