EU keeps controversial fishing fleet subsidies

EU member states agreed Wednesday to maintain controversial subsidies for modernising fishing fleets through to 2017, allegedly to help fleets switch to more sustainable fishing. Meanwhile, also on Wednesday the commission presented fishing opportunities for 2013 for certain fish stocks in the Atlantic and the North Sea.
