Google hits back at French 'news royalty' proposal

Google chief Eric Schmidt threatened to dump all French news websites from search queries should President Francois Hollande introduce a "news royalty" on the search engine. Google earns €1.2 bn on adverts in France annually or six times the total revenue of all French news sites, reports the Independent.
