EU stops aviation CO2 scheme for one year

The European Commission has frozen for one year its law on taxing non-EU airlines on the CO2 they emit in Europe. Environment commissioner Hedegaard said the freeze is designed to create "a positive atmosphere" for a global-level deal. China, Russia and the US had hated the EU scheme.
