ECB forbids Latvia from using 'eiro' for 'euro'

The ECB has said Latvia cannot use the Latvian spelling for the EU's single currency - "eiro" instead of "euro" - when it joins. It said in a statement that the introduction of the word into Latvian legal documents "has no effect on the existing rules of the Latvian language."
