Dutch border police last year intercepted 1,700 irregular migrants, including 250 cases of people-smuggling, as well as 2,400 people with unpaid fines and "drugs smugglers and money launderers," Dutch broadcaster Nos reports. The spot-checks were limited to 90 hours per month due to EU rules on passport-free travel.
