Four countries urge commission to protect EU values

The foreign ministers of the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark and Germany have sent a joint letter to Commission president Barroso, calling for the creation of a mechanism to safeguard principles such as democracy, human rights and the rule of law, including an option to cut EU funding for offenders, AP reports.
