Italian parliament likely to elect Marini for president

Italy's two main political blocs have agreed to back 80-year-old former centre-left Senate Speaker and trade unionist Franco Marini for president ahead of voting in parliament, starting Thursday. The deal may end a two-month impasse on forming a new government.
