Spanish government threatens to block Catalan referendum

The Spanish government has threatened to block plans by the Catalonian parliament to hold an independence referendum on 9 November. "The poll will not be held," said Justice Minister Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon Thursday after the region's President, Artur Mas, revealed that Catalan separatist parties had agreed on the referendum questions.
