German government to abstain in GMO vote

Germany will abstain in an EU vote next Tuesday on the cultivation of a new type of genetically modified insect-resistant maize, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said on Wednesday. If EU ministers fail to reach a definitive agreement it will be up to the EU commission to make a decision.
