EU upgrades rules for airport subsidies

The EU commission Thursday upgraded state aid rules for airports dating back to 2005, banning airports that serve more than 5 million passengers a year from receiving subsidies, unless there is a clear market failure. State aid for smaller airports will have to be phased out over a 10-year period.
