Around 3,500 protestors gathered Monday outside Icleand's parliament, The Althing, in the biggest street demonstrations since the 2009 financial crisis to demand the government keeps an election pledge and consult the people in a referendum on EU membership. Iceland's government announced Friday it will formally withdraw the country's membership application.
