Fischler on alert after US agrees farm subsidies

EU Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler’s cabinet in Brussels is on alert after US president George Bush on Monday signed a bill of record high subsidies for American farmers. Mr Fischler warns of devastating effects for the world market and fears for his own reform of EU agricultural policies, according to German newspaper Handelsblatt.
