William E. Kennard's day can range from speaking at a seminar on trans-Atlantic relations, to offering advice to young congress staffers at lunch or picking up an award at a black tie do.

He told EUobserver that American confidence in EU crisis-fighting efforts is a big factor in market movements, with the economy centre stage in US elections later this year.
