Macedonia mission given green light

EU ministers meeting in Brussels today (29 September) have agreed to send a 200-strong police force to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

The mission which has been called Proxima is due to be deployed by mid December for a period of around one year.

Union members are concerned that the security situation in FYROM may deteriorate with "potentially serious repercussions on international stability".
