EU institutions are wrangling over the appointment of two new commissioners from Romania and Bulgaria, with the European Commission and the European Parliament each pressing the other to speed up procedure and avoid painful delays.
With the accession date of the two newest EU member states - 1 January 2007 - fast approaching, EU officials are growing increasingly impatient over the fact that the names and portfolios of the Romanian and Bulgarian commissioners are still unknown.
