Cross border health proposal splits parliament

The European Parliament on Thursday brought the EU one step closer to a law easing cross-border healthcare, a move critics say will undermine national health systems as wealthy patients shop around for the best service.

After a heated debate on the law, which has polarised the parliament into a broadly pro-law right and anti-law left, the plenary eventually passed the first reading of the legislation which is set to lead to a Europea patient area.
