Commission on the offensive on EU budget

The European Commission has issued a strong warning against negotiations on the next EU budget round going on longer than the agreed political deadline of June.

Dalia Grybauskaite, the EU budget commissioner, said on Wednesday (6 April) that it takes a minimum of 12 to 18 months to prepare the legal basis for all of the EU programmes due to expire at the end of 2006.
