The EU's controversial sugar regime goes on the chopping block Wednesday (22 June) when agriculture commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel presents her vision of sugar production in the 25 member states.
The proposal is the latest in a long line of reforms from 2003 to make the EU's large agriculture subsidies more in line with world trade rules. The subsidy programs, which stem from the 1950s, make up nearly half the EU's annual budget.
