Merkel repeats call for treaty change

German chancellor Angela Merkel Wednesday repeated her view that the EU treaty should be changed to tighten budgetary rules. “I’m of the view that we need a treaty change. If [stability pact] agreements are not observed, a European institution must have the right to intervene in a budget being queried."

Angry farmers block Brussels again, urge fix to 'unfair' prices

Following weeks of demonstrations across Europe, farmers returned to Brussels to protest over unfair competition in prices, as EU agriculture ministers met just a few metres away to discuss a response. The police used water cannon and tear gas.
