Almunia warns against 'avoiding' European Parliament in new fiscal treaty

"If I have one serious criticism regarding the drafts of the new inter-governmental treaty, is that if the consequence is to bypass the European Parliament, we are not going in the right direction," EU competition commissioner Joaquin Almunia said Monday. MEPs do participate in talks, but only as observers.
