EU commission warns Italy on debt

EU economics commissioner Rehn has said he "trusts" the new Italian government will stick to EU debt rules.“We all know Italy has a very high level of public debt. Piling new debt on top of this old debt does not seem to improve the competitiveness of Italy,” Rehn said.
