Ex-advisor criticises Barroso for siding with Germany

Philippe Legrain, an ex-advisor to EU commission chief Barroso, has accused the commission of siding with Germany's austerity-focused response to the crisis. “Rather than being sidelined, [the commission] chose to strategically align itself with Germany”, Legrain told the FT, noting that “in a political sense it is weaker than ever.”
