EU may call snap summit for extra Russia sanctions

French FM Laurent Fabius said in Luxembourg Monday the EU may call a snap summit next week if the situation in Ukraine escalates. "Should it be necessary, there can be a meeting next week of Europe's heads of state and government to agree new sanctions [against Russia]," he noted.

EU leaders nix transnational lists, cool on 'Spitzenkandidat'

The 'Brussels bubble' ideas for transnational electoral lists was put on ice at the summit, while Jean-Claude Juncker's idea for an EU 'super president' was also rejected. The 'Spitzenkandidat' proposal backed by the European parliament also suffered a rebuff.
