German arms exports surged in 2013

German arms sales abroad jumped by about a quarter to €5.85bn last year, according to the annual report from the economics ministry published on Wednesday. Some of Germany’s biggest customers have serious question marks over their human rights records, including Algeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
