UK tables data retention law after EU court ruling

The UK said Thursday it will use "fast-track" laws to make communications firms retain customer data for one year to enable security sweeps after an EU court in April overturned European-level legislation in the area. PM Cameron said data retention is "at the heart of our entire criminal justice system".

EU negotiators strike deal on climate 'law of laws'

The European Parliament and the European Council reached an agreement on the first-ever EU climate law - raising the current 2030 emission-reduction target from 40 percent to around 55 percent (including carbon sinks).
