Merkel to calm party tensions over migration

German chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday she wants to "drastically decrease" the inflow of refugees. Her Christian Democratic Union is holding a two-day congress in Karlsruhe after more than one million applied for asylum in Germany and she is set to attempt to mend the divides in the party.

EU Modernisation Fund: an open door for fossil gas in Romania

Among the largest sources of financing for energy transition of central and eastern European countries, the €60bn Modernisation Fund remains far from the public eye. And perhaps that's one reason it is often used for financing fossil gas projects.
