Christian Kern to be Austria's new chancellor

Christian Kern, the head of Austria's railways, is to become the next Austrian chancellor on Tuesday (17 May) when the Social-Democrat Party (SPO) is likely to choose him as leader to replace Werner Faymann, who resigned on Monday. Kern on Thursday got support from the main SPO leaders.

EU Modernisation Fund: an open door for fossil gas in Romania

Among the largest sources of financing for energy transition of central and eastern European countries, the €60bn Modernisation Fund remains far from the public eye. And perhaps that's one reason it is often used for financing fossil gas projects.
