EU puts Georgia visa-free deal on hold

EU states' ambassadors on Wednesday put on hold plans to grant visa-free travel into the passport-free Schengen zone to Georgia, after France, Germany and Italy objected to moving ahead. Germany cited one reason as being that Georgian criminal gangs in Germany, which specialise in home burglaries, have become a public concern and that Tbilisi should help solve the problem before the EU proceeds.
