EU to train Libyan navy and coastguard

EU states Monday agreed that their anti-migrant smuggling naval operation in the Mediterranean, Sophia, will also train the Libyan coastguard and navy and will intercept boats in international waters suspected of trafficking arms to the region. They extended, until 27 July 2017, the mandate of the mission. Moves come amid concern migrants are switching from Greece to the Mediterranean route and that jihadist group Islamic State is expanding in Libya.
